A trainee Second Lieutenant at the Underwater Demolition School passed away today during a training exercise.

According to the official statement by the Hellenic Navy General Staff (HNGS), Infantry Second Lieutenant S.M. lost consciousness today, April 29, 2025, at approximately 12:30, during training at the Underwater Demolition Command.

The 25-year-old officer was immediately administered first aid, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was performed by qualified medical personnel. He was then transported to Attikon Hospital, where, despite the persistent efforts of the hospital’s medical staff, his death was confirmed.

His next of kin have been informed, and all necessary procedures have been initiated to investigate the circumstances and causes of the incident.

It is noted that this is the second death of a trainee at the Underwater Demolition School within the past six months. On November 29, 2024, Petty Officer Alexandros Ketikoglou also died during training.
