A Hellenic Air Force officer from the 117 Combat Wing was injured during the disposal of confiscated fireworks in Ilia. The incident is under investigation by military authorities.

An officer of the Hellenic Air Force’s 117 Combat Wing (117 CW) sustained facial injuries on Friday, April 11, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., during a firework disposal operation at the Palaiochori Firing Range in the Ilia region of western Greece.

The officer, a Technical Armament Specialist (TAS), was participating in an operation involving the neutralization of confiscated fireworks handed over by the Hellenic Police.

The injured officer received immediate medical attention and was transported by EKAV ambulance to the General Hospital of Pyrgos, accompanied by personnel from the 117 CW. Following an initial evaluation by hospital doctors, it was confirmed that the officer’s condition is not life-threatening.

For further examination and specialized care, he was later transferred to the University Hospital of Patras, with medical staff from his unit in coordination with the 251 Hellenic Air Force General Hospital (251 HAFGH).

The exact circumstances of the incident are currently under investigation by relevant Air Force and Police authorities.
