Statement by the Minister of National Defense in response to opposition parties’ claims of lacking information regarding the fourth FDI frigate (Belharra).
The Minister of National Defense, Nikos Dendias, following the meeting of the Government Council for National Security (KYSEA) held today, Holy Wednesday, April 16, 2025, made a statement in response to comments made by opposition parties regarding their alleged lack of information about the 4th FDI (Belharra) frigate for the Greek Navy.
Minister Dendias expressed his surprise at these claims, noting that the decision concerning the fourth frigate is explicitly stated and included in the new Force Structure Plan, which was approved by the relevant committee of the Hellenic Parliament. It is also incorporated in the Long-Term Defense Armaments Plan (LTDAP 2025–2036), which was likewise approved by Parliament and presented by the Chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff (GEETHA).
He also emphasized that he remains fully available to provide information to all political parties and Members of Parliament. Additionally, he referred to a series of transparency measures already announced by the Ministry, stressing that no further proposals have been submitted by any political party.
In closing, the Minister of National Defense urged political parties to keep issues of what he described as “existential anxiety” outside the scope of national defense, stating: “National defense is an area in which we must strive for unity and consensus” and extended his wishes for a “Happy Easter to all.”
