The multinational exercise NIRIIS 24 was conducted at the Crete Naval Station, the Naval Defense Center (KENAP) and the Cretan Sea.

The NIRIIS Exercise, an INVITEX (Invitation Exercise), is organized annually by the Greek Navy and aims to practice naval warfare and maritime security procedures, dealing with both classic and modern threats.

Navy ships and vehicles, such as frigates, fast boats, submarines, amphibious forces and mine warfare units participated in Exercise NIRIIS 24. Also, forces from the Greek Army, Air Force and the Special Warfare Command participated . International forces included units from France and the United States of America, as well as observers from countries such as Egypt, Albania, Bulgaria and Israel.

In addition, the GR Maritime Force Headquarters (GRMARFOR) participated in the exercise and was evaluated by the Fleet Headquarters, as the Naval Force Commander’s Staff at sea. The assessment was conducted as part of the Full Operational Capability (FOC) process, as one of the NATO Maritime Forces (MARFOR) at tactical level.
