Meeting of Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the Ministry of National Defense.

The Minister of National Defense, Nikos Dendias, welcomed today, Tuesday, November 26, 2024, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the Ministry of National Defense, marking Rutte’s first visit to Greece in his new capacity.

Mr. Dendias had a private meeting with Mr. Rutte, followed by expanded discussions.

Present at the subsequent talks were Deputy Minister of National Defense Giannis Kefalogiannis, Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS) General Dimitrios Choupis, and the Director General of of National Defence Policy and International Relations (GDNDPIR, ΓΔΠΕΑΔΣ) Ambassador (ret.) Michail Spinellis. During the meeting, there was an exchange of views on international and regional developments, with an emphasis on the situation in Ukraine and the Eastern Mediterranean.

Opinions were also exchanged regarding EU-NATO relations and Greece’s relationships with member states of the Alliance in the broader region. The Minister of National Defense highlighted Greece’s role as a pillar of stability and security in the Eastern Mediterranean, within the framework of International Law and Maritime Law.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of developing the Defense Industry and Innovation for the Greek Armed Forces.
