Seizure of 131 kilos of cocaine worth 5.9 million euros hidden in banana containers at Piraeus Port.

The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (IAPR, greek: ΑΑΔΕ, AADE) and the Hellenic Police successfully uncovered two new drug trafficking cases at the port of Piraeus.

Customs inspectors, in cooperation with the Hellenic Police, discovered a total of 131 kilos of cocaine concealed in banana containers arriving from Ecuador.

The two seizure cases

In the first case, inspectors from the 3rd Customs Office of Piraeus used a mobile x-ray vehicle to check the containers. The specially trained drug detection dogs, MAX and KYBERR, gave a positive indication, leading to a physical inspection. During the inspection, 67 packages of cocaine were seized, with a total gross weight of 78 kilos and an estimated value of 3.51 million euros.

In the second case, during a physical inspection by customs officers and the Hellenic Police, 47 packages of cocaine were found, with a gross weight of 53 kilos and an estimated value of 2.39 million euros.

Total value and investigation

The total gross weight of the seized cocaine amounts to 131 kilos, while its total value is estimated at 5.9 million euros.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities examine potential links to international drug trafficking networks. Efforts to dismantle organized crime groups continue intensively, aiming to combat smuggling and ensure public safety.
